There is a village in South Euboea called Adya, near Karistos town, where locals speak, since ancient times, the whistling language (called sfyria) – a unique phenomenon. Many documentaries (BBC) have been filmed and it has been proposed to be recognized by the UNESCO as a protected language. Nowadays only few people are left to speak this ancient language.
